Core specialist service

Biohazard and contamination cleaning

Some properties require more than a standard deep clean. Hospital 2 Home provides a sensitive, risk-assessed response where bodily fluids, human or animal waste, severe sanitation issues or contaminated contents may place occupants, visitors or professionals at risk.

We work with councils, NHS and hospital discharge teams, Adult Social Care, housing providers, charities, families and individuals. Each referral is assessed so the required cleaning, clearance, waste handling and access arrangements can be agreed before work begins.

Situations we can assess

  • Blood and bodily-fluid contamination
  • Urine, faeces and vomit
  • Human or animal waste
  • Severe hygiene and sanitation concerns
  • Contaminated furniture and household contents
  • Self-neglect and hoarding-related contamination
  • Odour and hygiene concerns following contamination
  • Unsafe essential rooms or access routes

How specialist work is managed

1. Referral and risk informationWe establish the contamination type, property condition, known hazards, access and urgency.
2. Assessment and clear scopeThe required clearance, cleaning, waste arrangements, responsibilities and exclusions are agreed.
3. Controlled interventionAppropriate protective equipment, cleaning methods and authorised waste routes are used for the assessed situation.
4. Completion informationWe confirm the work completed and can provide supporting written or photographic records where agreed.
Important for referrers: Please tell us about known needles or sharps, infestation, structural damage, utilities, aggressive behaviour, access restrictions or any other identified risk. Avoid entering or disturbing a potentially contaminated area unnecessarily.

Referral questions

Information for referrers

Quick answers for professionals, families and organisations considering a referral.

When should a referral be made?

Contact us as soon as the home environment is identified as a possible barrier to discharge or a risk to the person. Early contact gives more time to assess the work and agree realistic timescales.

What information should I provide?

Please include the property location, the main concern, known risks, access arrangements, the required timescale and the best person to contact. Avoid sending unnecessary sensitive personal information.

Do you accept urgent or short-notice work?

Yes, subject to team capacity, the location and the nature of the risks. We will explain what can realistically be arranged after reviewing the referral.

Can you work with a social worker or housing officer?

Yes. We can agree the scope, quotation, access and completion information with the authorised professional or organisation managing the referral.

Do you provide records after the work?

Scopes, quotations, risk information, photographs and completion records can be provided where agreed and appropriate. Photographs are handled sensitively and should only be shared where necessary.

Property photographs

Please show the whole room

Clear, wide photographs help us understand the full scale of the work and provide an accurate assessment.

  • Stand in the doorway and use landscape view
  • Include the floor, furniture and surrounding areas
  • Take another photograph from the opposite corner
  • Add close-ups after the wide room photographs
Poor example showing only one item
Close-up only — not enough detail
Good example photographed from the doorway showing the whole room
